We are blessed to have our farm. It is more than we deserve, but we hope to serve God, help others and leave a legacy for our family through it. We have discovered the farm also gives us the opportunity to share the goodness of fresh vegetables and the farming experience with other folks locally.
Deerwood originally began as a nursery, providing field-grown trees and shrubs. In 2008, when the economy took a downturn, our nursery sales slowed dramatically. The thoughts of “diversify or die” kept coming to mind. Because necessity is the mother of invention, we have taken the nursery and invented a farm within it. We were very fortunate we could use some of our land for vegetables, rather than trees. Being county folks, we decided to jump into farming and sell our fresh, local crops at tailgate markets.
